Although it’s sad to see Cheers without Coach due to Nicholas Colasanto’s death, the show marches on with its same strong humor and the addition of Woody Harrelson.
Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) returns to Cheers with news that Diane (Shelley Long) has left him at the altar and now lives in a convent. Sam (Ted Danson) rehires her as a waitress alongside new bartender Woody Boyd (Harrelson). Sam begins a serious relationship with Janet Eldrige (Kate Mulgrew) and must decide between her and Diane.
Harrelson is a great addition to the tight-knit cast of Cheers. He’s immediately funny and brings the same dim-witted humor that Colasanto provided the show.
The Sam and Diane dynamic gets a little tiresome as if the writers don’t know what to do with them but provides a great cliffhanger finale.
Final say: A good shake up. ★★★★☆
