One of the greatest tragedies of all-time featuring one of the most complex female leads of all-time is given new life in this production.
Medea (Helen McCrory) feels threatened when her husband Jason (Danny Sapani) leaves her to marry the daughter of Kreon (Martin Turner). She goes into a state of madness as Kreon exiles her to protect himself and his daughter.
From her first moments onstage, McCrory fully disappears into the role of Medea full of passion, anger and desperation. And though Medea’s crimes are horrendously unforgivable, you’ll sympathize with her character.
The staging of this production is magnificent. It brings the old story into a new world while still maintaining its origins. Especially with the fact that Medea and Jason are presented as an interracial couple with mixed children.
Final say: Brilliantly acted and engaging. ★★★★☆
