In his feature film directorial debut, Ari Aster creates a new horror masterpiece that will stay with audiences long after the credits roll.
After the death of her mother, Annie (Toni Collette) and her family begin being haunted by a mysterious presence.
There’s so much of the film’s plot that needs to be left unsaid because of how it would ruin major surprising moments, but viewers will be drawn in right away. The outstanding production value – especially the writing and cinematography – leaves you guessing what could possibly happen next. The unsettling feeling throughout is bone chilling.
Collette and Alex Wolff – as her son Peter – both give defining performances. For Collette, it’s another one that proves her unsung genius while for Wolff, it acts as a star making vehicle.
Final say: Proof that original ideas are still alive. ★★★★★
