Back to the Future is just as thrilling upon first viewing today as when it was released thanks to glorious special effects and dynamic performances by Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd.
When Doc Brown (Lloyd) builds a time machine out of a DeLorean in 1985, his young apprentice Marty McFly (Fox) accidentally gets transported back to 1955. He must find Doc to get him back to the future while also making sure his parents Lorraine (Lea Thompson) and George (Crispin Glover) get together.
A collaboration with Steven Spielberg, the film goes to great heights in terms of inventive storytelling but knows its limitations and remains in that realm. The script by writers Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale is extremely smart and you’ll need multiple viewings to catch all the callbacks between time periods.
Final say: The future is here. ★★★★★
