Released: December 4, 2020
By: Shawn Mendes
In what he says in his documentary is a love letter to girlfriend Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes’ fourth album continues to show his growth as an artist, but still begs for more.
Wonder is full of fantastically written songs, all of which Mendes had a hand in, but the flow of the album could be better. The first mistake comes right at the beginning when “Intro” should seamlessly flow into “Wonder,” but instead there’s an awkward jump cut.
His standouts on the album seem to be the most personal without actually being about love. “Call My Friends” and the Justin Bieber collaboration “Monster” both hit on the pressures of being famous in the spotlight with the latter having the two artists comment on the issues of staying “perfect” in the light from a young age.
Final say: Feel the rush. ★★★★☆
