Instead of taking the normal Hollywood route and adapting Hamilton for the screen, this film is a direct stage recording with the original principal Broadway cast reprising their roles.
As the United States of America breaks from England’s King George III (Jonathan Groff) to become its own nation, Alexander Hamilton (Lin-Manuel Miranda) and Aaron Burr (Leslie Odom Jr.) fight for power.
Moving past the already established brilliance of the content and staging, this film is a perfect way for audiences who have yet to see the show be able to experience it. Director Thomas Kail’s use of both close-ups and wider shots of the stage allows for new experience.
Tony winners Odom, Daveed Diggs and Renée Elise Goldsberry, as well as creator Miranda give perfect performances alongside the rest of the cast.
Final say: Don’t say no to this. ★★★★★
