On her seventh studio album, Miley Cyrus – who has constantly recreated her imagine and sound – finally comes into her own with the rock-heavy Plastic Hearts.
Starting with the explosive “WTF Do I Know?,” Cyrus’ rough quality in her voice matches her emotions – which seem to largely focus on her divorce from Liam Hemsworth. Her songs are fiercely independent and unapologetic about the end of their relationship and how she’s living now.
Cyrus also brings in some incredible rock icons with Billy Idol, Joan Jett and Stevie Nicks all duetting with her. However, she doesn’t stray too far from her pop roots, especially seen in the Dua Lipa-feature “Prisoner.” But her live covers of Blondie’s “Heart of Glass” and the Cranberries’ “Zombie” shows off her range in styles.
Final say: The best yet from Cyrus. ★★★★★
