A story of hope that shows the injustices that happen inside prison walls, The Shawshank Redemption is an inspirational story that will remain with you long after watching.
In 1947, Andy Dufresne is sentenced with a double-life term in prisoner for the murders of his wife (Renee Blaine) and her lover (Scott Mann). He’s befriended by Red (Morgan Freeman) who smuggles contraband into the prison. Realizing Andy is good with numbers, Warden Samuel Norton (Bob Gunton) utilizes him for money laundering.
This film gives an honest depiction of prison life. The illegal acts that are carried out by the wardens and guards are overlooked as the prisoners suffer at their hands.
Freeman gives a memorable performance and narrates for the first time. The calmness of his personality and voice makes him an easily sympathetic character.
Final say: A cinematic triumph. ★★★★★
