In a film appealing to audiences of a younger generation that may not have been introduced to the Scooby-Doo characters, Scoob! fails to connect with the true spirit of Mystery Inc.
After being attacked by robots, Scooby-Doo (Frank Welker) and Shaggy (Will Forte) are beamed up into the Blue Falcon’s (Mark Wahlberg) spaceship. They discover villain Dick Dastardly (Jason Isaacs) is trying to open to underworld, which will release the mythological Cerberus.
There film suffers from two main issues: the splitting of the core gang along with tensions between Shaggy and Scooby and the introduction of many Hanna-Barbera characters that are obscure to people born after 1980. There are a lot of personalities to keep track of in a short amount of time, which doesn’t let anyone other than Scooby and Shaggy shine.
Final say: A mystery in itself. ★★★☆☆
