Although fans of the original 1995 film might be weary of this reboot, Jumanji creatively adapts the classic story for modern day while also paying homage to it and star Robin Williams.

While in detention, Spencer (Alex Wolff), Fridge (Ser’Darius Blain), Bethany (Madison Iseman) and Martha (Morgan Turner) discover an old video game called Jumanji. They get sucked into a new world and become the avatars they chose to play.

Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan play fantastic versions of the teens stuck in new bodies. They smartly question some of the stereotypical video game roles. Black in particular is hilarious as he acts as a teenage girl in a man’s body.

The action is sharp and mixes perfectly with the comedy of the script making this a thrilling yet funny adventure.
