From the brilliant mind of Mindy Kaling, Never Have I Ever is sure to be your next favorite obsession with its incredibly diverse cast and storyline that is equally funny and heartbreaking.
The year after her father’s (Sendhil Ramamurthy) death, high school sophomore Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) is determined to have an epic year and lose her virginity. She and her mom (Poorna Jagannathan) have difficulty communicating and processing their grief.
Ramakrishnan is a break-out star who delivers her lines with perfect comedic timing. Her character is reminiscent of the same quick-witted characters Kaling has previously played – and is actually based on a young Kaling.
The show brilliantly explores Devi’s grief and helps her remember parts that she’d blocked out, but also gives equally intense storylines to the many supporting characters.
