Kicking off the Disney Renaissance period and bringing in a new age of animation for the film industry, The Little Mermaid will entertain you time and time again.
Based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, Ariel (Jodi Benson), a mermaid, wishes for a life out of the sea and falls in love when she spies Prince Eric (Christopher Daniel Barnes). She trades Ursula the sea witch (Pat Carroll) her voice for a pair of legs but must get a true love’s kiss by sunset on the third night.
I’d argue that The Little Mermaid has the best collection of songs of any Disney film. From Ariel’s hopeful “Part of Your World” to Sebastian’s (Samuel E. Wright) “Under the Sea” to the best villain song “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” every musical moment is captivating.
Final say: Devote time to floating. ★★★★★
