Film: Love, Rosie

Opened: October 22, 2014

Directed by: Christian Ditter

Starring: Lily Collins, Sam Claflin, Tamsin Egerton, Suki Waterhouse, Jaime Winstone & Christian Cooke

While the storyline of Cecelia Ahern’s 2004 novel is significantly changed for the film adaptation, Love, Rosie has endearing leads that make for a light romantic comedy.

Rosie Dunne (Lily Collins) and Alex Stewart (Sam Claflin) have been friends almost their whole lives. When they kiss and don’t act on their feelings, over a decade’s worth of missed opportunities and wrong loves begins as they verge onto different paths.

Collins and Claflin have obvious chemistry and the scenes they share together show their strength as romantic leads. They unfortunately suffer from a rushed script that puts them in bad situations.

While the book spans over 40 years, this is shortened to 12 years. It makes the characters seem less developed as they make poor decisions and the obvious ending less satisfying.

Final say: Read the book and watch them grow. ★★★☆☆
