Pitting women against women and using a corny storyline with jokes to match, You Again is a film that will provide a few laughs, but make you sigh more than anything.
Marni Olsen (Kristen Bell) returns to her hometown where her brother Will (James Wolk) is marrying her high school bully Joanna (Odette Annable). While her mother Gail (Jamie Lee Curtis) tells her to stay above it all, she falls into her own drama when Joanna’s Aunt Ramona (Sigourney Weaver) turns out to be her ex-best friend.
While Bell is a great lead as always, her character falls into easy traps. As you watch her regression, you find yourself asking why it’s happening. Wolk is also an underdeveloped and underutilized character.
In a time when female roles are advancing, this feels like it should be forgotten.
Final say: This again? ★★☆☆☆
