Bringing back the female comedy in a story that’s all about women supporting each other – or trying to – Bridemaids is an uproar of comedy and heart.
Lillian Donovan (Maya Rudolph) is getting married and chooses her best friend Annie Walker (Kristen Wiig) to be her maid of honor. Already dealing with a bad time in her life, Annie is shaken when fellow bridesmaid Helen Harris (Rose Byrne) shows her up during each of the pre-wedding events.
Wiig and Rudolph are both right in their elements bringing incredible comedic performances that are each memorable in their own ways. Their fellow costars – Byrne, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ellie Kemper – all bring the laughs, but it’s Melissa McCarthy who’s the breakout star.
With smart dialogue and comedy that’s realistic, Bridesmaids is a film that feels real.
Final say: I’d marry this ensemble. ★★★★☆
