An intense Disney film that covers the issues of racism and integrating schools, Remember the Titans continues to resonate with families.
In 1971, residents of Alexandria, Virginia are appalled when Bill Yoast (Will Patton) is demoted to assistant coach of the T. C. Williams High School football team and Herman Boone (Denzel Washington) becomes head coach. The players on the team have their beliefs challenged when it becomes an integrated team.
Washington gives an incredible performance filled with inspirational speeches. He’s tough, but he’ll also bring tears to your eyes. He leads a terrific ensemble cast, but it’s pint-sized Hayden Panettiere as Yoast’s daughter Sheryl that steals every scene.
There are moments of the film that feel melodramatic, but there’s a strength in the film that will make you forget those too-tender scenes.
Final say: You’ll remember this film. ★★★★☆
