A hilarious teen comedy with some high stakes and great social commentary, Dope is a movie more people should be talking about.
After attending the birthday party of drug dealer Dom (A$AP Rocky), nerdy high school student Malcolm (Shameik Moore) discovers his backpack full of drugs and a gun. With the help of his friends Jib (Tony Revolori) and Diggy (Kiersey Clemons), Malcom now has to distribute and earn profits from the drugs.
Malcolm is a character easy to identify with as he tries to get out of his hometown and into a good college, but with some pressure falls into this world of illegal activities. Toward the end of film, he describes both sides of him and compares himself to a white counterpart. It’s this moment that really makes you think about his situation.
Final say: It’s dope. ★★★★★
