A timeless story focusing on the Jewish religion in 1905 Russia, Fiddler on the Roof continues to tell its tale to generations of new audiences.
Poor dairyman Tevye (Yehezkel Lazarov) tries to keep the Jewish faith and traditions strong among his five daughters, but the three oldest – Tzeitel (Mel Weyn), Hodel (Ruthy Froch) and Chava (Natalie Powers) – want to marry men that don’t fall in line with Tevye’s wishes. Their town suffers as the Tsar evicts the Jews from their village.
Regardless of your religious beliefs, you’ll love the show and feel the power of their faith in the many musical numbers, including the amazing wedding number “The Bottle Dance.” Lazarov and Maite Uzal (as his wife Golde) have great chemistry that’s laughable and strained, but loving.
Final say: Religion is great when it unites. ★★★★★
