Music: Metamorphosis

Released: August 26, 2003

By: Hilary Duff

Released around the time of her first film lead in The Lizzie McGuire Movie, Hilary Duff’s Metamorphosis shows the teen in a changing state.

The album itself is bubblegum pop and surely pleased her tween fans, but upon later listening, the album lacks substance to really make a mark for Duff musically. There are a few songs that have lasting power – the singles “So Yesterday” and “Come Clean” along with the bonus track “Why Not” from The Lizzie McGuire Movie– but most are easily forgettable.

Duff is vocally limited, which halts her from having any truly big numbers. However, that’s not to say the album isn’t fun. In addition to the aforementioned songs, “Anywhere But Here” is a sweet number about love, while “Party Up” is a dance ready song.

Final say: Good for her age. ★★★☆☆
