Released: March 3, 2017
By: Khalid
Khalid’s American Teen is an incredibly strong debut that brings relaxing sounds with strong lyrics that speak to the generation of teens and those just older that he’s trying to reach.
A teen himself when the album was released, Khalid seems – and sounds – wise beyond his years. The album feels like it could be the soundtrack to an indie film directed by Greta Gerwig. He tells his story, which connects with people, whether at this point in their life or in the past.
His three singles from the album “Young Dumb & Broke,” “Location” and “Saved” are all stellar, but some of the best songs are hidden gems. “Another Sad Love Song” is a sad song but will have you dancing along in release. “8teen” meanwhile tells the story of a typical teenager.
Final say: A freeing experience. ★★★★★
