Hollywood’s first modern film with a majority Asian cast since 1993, Crazy Rich Asians breaks boundaries with its story of love and family.
Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) accompanies her boyfriend Nick Young (Henry Golding) to Singapore where he is to be the best man at his friend Colin Khoo’s (Chris Pang) wedding. Meeting Nick’s family for the first time, she has no idea the wealth they have or the mother (Michelle Yeoh) she’ll have to impress.
While much of the film feels like it could be a storyline out of a soap opera, the extravagance makes it beautiful. The cinematography shows the best of Singapore.
Everyone in the cast is a perfect fit with Wu and Golding having strong holds on their lead roles. They’re both wonderfully charming and Wu brings the best comedy opposite Awkwafina.
Final say: Crazy entertaining. ★★★★★
