An outstanding example of animation mixed with live-action performances, Who Framed Roger Rabbit is a comedy masterpiece that’s bound to entertain any age.
When studio executive Marvin Acme (Stubby Kaye) is murdered, toon star Roger Rabbit (Charles Fleischer) is the wrongfully accused suspect. With the help of Detective Eddie Valiant (Bob Hoskins), Roger must prove his innocence or be condemned by Judge Doom (Chirstopher Lloyd).
The entire film feels like it was plucked straight out of the 1940s. It has quick dialogue and almost identical shots of the detective flicks of that day. Hoskins and Joanna Cassidy’s performances feel like a Humphrey Bogart film.
Incorporating characters from both Disney and Warner Brothers, this film is the only time you’ll see Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck share the screen with Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.
Final say: A satisfying modern throwback. ★★★★☆
