Kiss Me, Kate is a classic show and a delight to watch, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have flaws.
Following a cast of characters putting on a musical production of William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, antics occur backstage among the four stars. Exes Fred Graham (Ben Davis) and Lilli Vanessi (Alexandra Silber) play lovers, while newcomer Lois Lane (Louise Dearman) tries to make a name for herself and her boyfriend Bill (Tony Yazbeck) runs into some trouble with gangsters.
Many of the songs in here are memorable. Act II opener “Too Darn Hot” is an incredible dance number full of passion and easily steals the show.
However, it feels like many plot points are introduced and then barely touched again. Fred and Lilli’s romance takes center stage and pushes out everything else.
Final say: Lacking in storyline. ★★★☆☆
