Some of the biggest stars of the early 2000s take classic Disney songs from movies like Lilo & Stitch, Tarzan & Aladdin and make them their own.

While sometimes this method works, there are several cuts on here that just make you wish for the original. Jesse McCartney’s take on “When You Wish Upon a Star” is hardly as dreamy as the original as he pushes his vocals. Even “It’s a Small World” will make you want to be on the ride instead.

However, Disney Channel stars seem to have the best takes on songs. The Cheetah Girls have beautiful harmonies on Hercules’ “I Won’t Say (I’m in Love)” and Aly & AJ bring an upbeat “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah.” Of the three The Little Mermaid songs on the album, only Raven-Symoné brings an enjoyable new take.

Final say: Only slightly magical. ★★★☆☆
