This plot veers from the storyline that we’ve seen throughout cinematic history, which brings a fresh take on the classic story.
In 1973, Bill Randa (John Goodman) convinces James Conrad (Tom Hiddleston) and a crew to help him map out the previously undiscovered Skull Island. When they arrive, they are quickly attacked by Kong (Terry Notary and Toby Kebbell) – a 110-foot tall gorilla. They must survive Kong and other creatures on the island before they can escape.
There is an element of fun brought into this movie that lifts the spirit of the monster film. John C. Reilly’s Hank Marlow is hilariously out of touch after spending 29 years on Skull Island.
Both the visual effects and cinematography enhance the film. The colors are beautifully intense, which sometimes creates uneasiness for the viewers.
Final say: Could easily challenge its predecessors. ★★★★☆
