Disney Channel seems to have become quite corny over the years, and while this film is no exception, it brought back the channel’s musical original movie in a big way.
After attempting to surf a 40-foot wave, Mack (Maia Mitchell) and her boyfriend Brady (Ross Lynch) end up in Mack’s grandpa’s (Barry Bostwick) favorite beach movie Wet Side Story. They have to deal with a big cast of characters and fix the problems they create in order to make it back home.
Despite the wacky storyline – a laughable rip-off of the “Beach Party” era and West Side Story – the music and choreography is incredible. Songs like “Surf Crazy” and “Crusin’ for a Bruisin’” are huge and rather difficult dance numbers that the cast performs with ease.
Lynch and Mitchell have fun chemistry with their banter.
Final say: Good fun. ★★★☆☆
