Music: Battlefield

Released: July 17, 2009

By: Jordin Sparks

While the youngest winner in the history of American Idol, Jordin Sparks sheds her young persona on her second studio album, Battlefield.

Sparks’ vocals are beautiful throughout the album and its clear to see why she was chosen as the American Idol. The strength in her vocals mirrors the strong personality that flows through her songs.

“Battlefield,” the first single, shows her questioning love and what relationships should be like. It’s more of a ballad, though songs like “Don’t Let It Go to Your Head” and “Watch You Go” bring more of the ballad feel to the album.

Club-ready songs like “S.O.S. (Let the Music Play)” and “Emergency (911)” show her range and allow her to be taken more seriously as a top pop artist.

Final say: Not particularly memorable, but Sparks shines. ★★★☆☆
