A comedic tale of a high school teenager finding out she’s next in line for the throne of a foreign country, The Princess Diaries is fun for the whole family.
Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathway) lives an ordinary life. She’s uncool and just trying to get through high school. But when Clarisse (Julie Andrews), the mother of her late father, comes into town and tells Mia she’s Princess of Genovia, Mia’s whole life is turned upside down.
Hathaway is splendidly relatable in her first major film role. She’s unafraid to play with her entertaining personality and acts off Andrews spectacularly. As usual, Andrews charms audiences with her regality. She is a more of a playful queen who is trying to understand the teenage lifestyle.
This story is light and enchanting.
Final say: Everyone’s biggest dream comes true for Hathaway. ★★★★★
