The latest installment in this mega series continues to draw on past influences – and with it brings old characters back to the screen.

The rebel alliance led by Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) continues to fight evil forces. Meanwhile, Rey (Daisy Ridley) begins training with the reluctant Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) while exploring a strange connection with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).

While the first half of the film brings more comedy (which feels out of place) than others, the second half packs the action that fans come in drives to see. Laura Dern makes a strong debut as Vice Admiral Hodo, whose impactful actions are lasting.

Most important is the tribute to the late Fisher. Leia still has as much spunk and command as ever and will remain in our hearts forever.

Final say: Strong for a middle film. ★★★☆☆
