Cinderella is brought into the 21st century with this updated musical.

The plot follows the typical storyline where the mistreated Cinderella (Laura Osnes) meets the prince (Santino Fontana) at a ball and he uses her slipper to find her. But, this version features a socioeconomic subplot where radicalist Jean-Michel (Greg Hildreth) wants to overthrow the government and Cinderella uses her connection with the prince to speak about the needs of the less fortunate.

With the updated book, this familiar show feels fresh. Osnes and Fontana beautifully play their roles with elegance, comedy and wonder as both characters start influencing the other’s world. It also presents Cinderella and her stepsister Gabrielle (Marla Mindelle) as feminists.

At the same time, the costumes, sets and musical numbers are as beautiful as ever.

Final say: Perfection with a modern twist. ★★★★★
