Theater pieces about the theater are always incredibly fun.
After the opening night performance of The Golden Egg, the cast and crew go to producer Julia Budder’s (Megan Mullally) home to await the first reviews.
The ensemble of actors in this show were a dream. Rupert Grint plays the eccentric director of the show who hides under a blanket on stage for so long that you forget he’s there until his reemergence. And, newcomer Micah Stock makes an unforgettable debut – especially with his “Defying Gravity” solo.
Perhaps the funniest jokes of the show go to Nathan Lane, especially when his character pokes fun at Nathan Lane.
People who know theater will roll in the aisles with laughter as the jokes keep coming. Unfamiliar theatergoers, on the other hand, may not understand the humor.
Final say: Hilarity at theater’s expense. ★★★★☆
