I don’t know if it was just me, but I was sold on this show by the ads basically going: Do you like Downton Abbey? Well, this show is set in early 1900s England with Elizabeth McGovern as the matriarch of the family.
And that’s about where the similarities end.
McGovern plays Mrs. Conway, who has six children – three of which she favors over the others. Part of the story takes place in 1919, just after the war ends and spirits are high, while the other half takes place in 1938 when the family is going through major troubles.
The cast didn’t seem to mesh together well and there was often too little movement on the stage. McGovern was spectacular in a horrible way, but the other actors barely had time to shine.
Final say: There wasn’t much to enjoy. ★★☆☆☆
