At a time when racial tensions are getting higher in society, the topic of this book couldn’t be more pure and relevant.
Natasha is a teenage Jamaican girl trying to save her family from getting deported as they have been living as illegal aliens in the US for a number of years. Daniel, a Korean-American teenager, is trying to live up to the high standards of his parents. The two have a chance meeting and fall fast, but can they stay together based on their circumstances?
This book is written beautifully in a few different viewpoints over 24 hours, though mainly switching between Natasha and Daniel. As soon as you pick it up, you won’t be able to put it down.
Nicola Yoon triumphs in her second novel.
Final say: A heart-wrenchingly beautiful story. ★★★★★
