Not-so-spoiler-alert: What movie would kill off its biggest and most profitable star in the opening scene? Wes Craven proved that all bets were off when Drew Barrymore died before the title card was shown.
A year after her mother was brutally murdered, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) starts being stalked by a man known as the Ghostface killer. He tries to kill her multiple times when the climatic scene takes place at a party at her friend’s house.
Satirizing some of the greatest horror films, Scream lists the horror movie rules that I’ve come to find are true for the ‘70s and ‘80s films. Other than Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween, Campbell is the most iconic final girl around.
The mix of comedy and horror in this is just right as well.
Final say: One of the best horror films around. ★★★★★
