Little Shop of Horrors is such a quirky musical with hilarity and suspense.
During a surprise total solar eclipse of the sun, Seymour Krelborn (Rick Moranis) finds an interesting looking plant. Setting it up in the window of the floral shop he works at, Seymour finds that “Audrey II” is a hit among customers. But, what shocks him is that the plant needs blood to grow.
The look and actions of Audrey II have always freaked me out a bit, and that’s saying something for a puppet that’s over 30 years old. Moranis and Ellen Greene shine in the lead roles with Greene’s singing voice tender at points, but passionately soaring at others.
The ending is tamer than the stage show, but that doesn’t make it any less creepy.
Final say: It’s no wonder this is a cult classic. ★★★★☆
