TV: The Bold Type – Season 1

On: Freeform

Premiered: June 20, 2017

Starring: Katie Stevens, Aisha Dee, Meghann Fahy, Matt Ward, Sam Page & Melora Hardin

When rebranding ABC Family into Freeform, there were promises of edgier television shows. The Bold Type feels exactly like what they were talking about.

Three girls navigate life and love while working at a successful women’s magazine called “Scarlet.” If you were a fan of The Devil Wears Prada, you need to watch this show. It has the same feeling of the cutthroat fashion magazine industry, but with a bit of a nicer and supportive boss, based on Cosmopolitan’s Joanna Coles.

I can’t stress the importance of this show. There are powerful, yet flawed women standing by their beliefs and realizing life isn’t easy. Just in the first few episodes sexuality, race, gender, religion, politics and so much more are covered. This show is a voice our generation needs to hear.

Final say: The Bold Type is exactly that: BOLD. ★★★★☆
