First thing: If you read the Stephen King book or watched the 1990 miniseries, get ready for a new adaptation. This film takes some new turns, but that makes it all the more thrilling.
After a series of murders, a group of kids spend their summer trying to hunt down the culprit. But, they get haunted themselves by a supernatural being they call “It.” This monster takes on various forms, but it’s favorite is Pennywise the (sinister) dancing clown (Bill Skarsgård).
Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, this movie isn’t as scary as the trailers make it seem. It focuses a lot on character development with incredible performances by its children cast. That isn’t to say the movie isn’t scary. If you don’t have the chills at least once, then you scare me.
Final say: If you don’t like clowns, stay away. ★★★★☆
