Released: August 7, 2015
Director: Josh Trank
When the cast was announced for this reboot of the Fantastic Four franchise, it seemed like a surefire success. And while their acting was great, the movie itself was terrible.
The title four get their powers when a machine called the “Quantum Gate” explodes. Unlike the movies from the earlier 2000s, this one treats the powers more as disabilities that the characters acquire.
Fantastic Four has a much darker tone than other 20th Century Fox superhero movies, like the X-Men franchise. With little humor, it becomes a chore to watch. Halfway through, I was thinking, “This movie should be so much better.” The special effects looked unrealistic and took me out of the story more than it pulled me in. It just felt like Trank took all the wrong turns after casting.
Final say: Just skip it. ★☆☆☆☆
