Back for a second season that’s even stronger than the first, One Day at a Time keeps its focus on family, LGBTQ+ issues and growing older with brilliant comedy and performances.

Elena (Isabella Gomez) deals with the fallout of her relationship with her father (James Martinez), while Alex (Marcel Ruiz) tries to help. Penélope (Justina Machado) begins dating again, and Lydia (Rita Moreno) and Schneider (Todd Grinnell) work toward U.S. citizenship.

Now that Elena is out of the closet, the show dives deeper into queer issues and handles them beautifully. It’s a tough world to navigate for everyone, but smart jokes help alleviate the stress.

The main cast continues to amaze, but it’s great to see Ruiz grow more into himself and his acting abilities, while Moreno takes you on a rollercoaster with Lydia’s journey.

Final say: This is it. ★★★★★
