Unrelated to the James Cameron film except in source material, Titanic is another look at the sinking of the iconic ship that focuses more on a well-rounded ensemble.
R.M.S. Titanic Captain E. J. Smith (Graham Bickley) is warned of ice ahead but is pressured by director J. Bruce Ismay (Martin Allanson) to push faster toward New York. On the night of April 14, 1912, Titanic hits an iceberg and sinks within hours.
You see points of view from every class level both in the passengers and with the crew. Especially in third class, there’s a strong hope of their future lives in America that’s heartbreaking knowing what becomes of most of them.
The show lacks any truly memorable songs, and the simplified set doesn’t make the ship or its sinking stand out enough.
Final say: The show verges on sinking. ★★★☆☆
