With a lengthy runtime and less entertainment than the similar Fast & Furious films, Need for Speed isn’t going to be winning any races.
Tobey Marshall (Aaron Paul) and his rival Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper) race alongside Tobey’s friend Pete (Harrison Gilbertson) when Dino’s antics end up taking Pete’s life. Dino lets Tobey take the fall and, after serving jail time, Tobey gets revenge in an illegal street race.
The plot of the film is very barebones, yet it runs for over two hours. This comes with little character development and too many extended chase scenes. It’s overkill and could have been condensed for more gripping action.
Due to the nondevelopment, the actors are wasted. Kid Cudi enjoys good comedic moments and Rami Malek has a memorable nude scene, but that’s about it.
Final say: Should have been faster. ★★☆☆☆
