Reese Witherspoon may give another committed performance as Elle Woods, but Legally Blonde 2 is criminal with its stereotypical humor and weak script.
While planning her wedding to Emmett (Luke Wilson), Elle discovers Bruiser’s mom is part of an animal cosmetics testing facility. Elle rushes to Washington to work with Congresswoman Victoria Rudd (Sally Field) to make testing on animals illegal.
Though the first film had some fantastical elements, it never felt like the actions couldn’t happen. Here, the film goes so far with gay dogs and weepy Congress members that you just cringe.
The film diminishes Elle’s shine at points, makes women fight each other and makes the most out of cheap gay jokes. You’ll find yourself laughing at the absurdity rather than connecting with what could’ve been a strong story.
Final say: So bad, it’s almost good. ★☆☆☆☆
