After making his first appearance in Justice League, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman gets a starring role in his own film. Though the story is weak, the action looks incredible.
When Atlanna (Nicole Kidman) falls in love with Tom Curry (Temuera Morrison), they create Arthur (Momoa) – a half-Atlantean, half-human. Years later, Arthur’s half-brother King Orm (Patrick Wilson) is leading a war that will destroy the surface world.
One of the main issues is that Orm’s grievance with the surface world is easy to understand. He’s tired of the pollution humans are causing. Is he going about it wrong? Yes. But is his battle unreasonable? No.
Momoa is fantastic but works with a weak script that tries hard to land jokes, but often misses, and alongside a weak love interest in Amber Heard’s Mera.
Final say: Drowning more than thriving. ★★☆☆☆
