Following the same formula as Teen Beach Movie but in opposite worlds, Teen Beach 2 features stellar music numbers but loses some of its spirit.

With summer over, Brady (Ross Lynch) and Mack (Maia Mitchell) don’t know what to expect of each other in school. Upset with her current life, Lela (Grace Phipps) – with Tanner (Garrett Clayton) following along – leaves Wet Side Story and ends up in the real world.

There was something magical about Brady and Mack being stuck in a ‘50s world where breaking out in song made sense since they were literally in a movie musical. While the songs fit in this film, they seem more unnatural.

Phipps is fantastic as Lela, but still doesn’t quite get her chance to shine.

Final say: I never thought I’d say it, but take me back to the ‘60s. ★★☆☆☆
