Chronicling the explosive behind-the-scenes story of making – or almost not making – The Godfather, The Offer presents a thrilling story on one of history’s greatest films.
Once Al Ruddy (Miles Teller) begins pre-production on Mario Puzo’s (Patrick Gallo) best-selling novel The Godfather, mafia boss Joe Colombo (Giovanni Ribisi) begins threatening Paramount, while Paramount’s Robert Evans (Matthew Goode) fights Ruddy on every decision.
Like a fight later in the series about the film’s runtime, the show could’ve benefitted from shaving some content. There are only so many times you can hear angry executives, while Love Story and Chinatown are mentioned almost as much as The Godfather.
However, the story keeps you invested, especially with great performances. Juno Temple’s Bettye McCartt is an unsung hero of the film with Temple stealing all her scenes.
Final say: Great TV about a great film. ★★★★☆
