Though the sequel to Zombies brings in new characters, it seems like their world isn’t ready for the change it strived for in the original.

When a pack of werewolves come out of the shadows, the humans of Seabrook reinstate anti-monster laws, which are against the zombies they’ve integrated into society. Addison (Meg Donnelly) feels like she can help the werewolves, but Zed (Milo Manheim) is nervous about a new set of monsters.

Like the first, there are a ton of underlying messages about racism and othering people. Zed’s struggles in accepting himself and others becomes a lesson in humanity. With the race for school president, the film also highlights how being different can be seen as dangerous in politics.

Here’s to hoping the third film won’t have the same conflict with racism.

Final say: Better than the first. ★★★★☆
