As Disney’s 50th animated feature, Tangled had the pressure to become a classic that could stand out amongst its competition. And it easily did.
Possessed with the gift of magical healing hair, Rapunzel (Mandy Moore) is stolen as a baby from the queen and king by Mother Gothel (Donna Murphy). Years later, Flynn Rider (Zachary Levi) discovers Rapunzel’s tower and takes her on the adventure of her life.
The film features spectacular animation, especially with Rapunzel’s lengthy hair and the awe-striking floating lantern scene. The lighting in both of those scenes enhance the imagery.
Within the storyline, it’s quite modern to see both the main male and female characters have to save each other at different points. Neither is a damsel in distress, and both are made to be heroes.
Final say: Bright new age for Disney. ★★★★★
