With horror film aficionado Wes Craven at the helm, Red Eye is a fantastic thriller that focuses more on the psychological factors rather than straight scares.
When Lisa Reisert (Rachel McAdams) meets Jackson Rippner (Cillian Murphy) in the airport, he seems friendly. Once onboard, she discovers he’s a terrorist who needs her assistance in an assassination plot against Charles Keefe (Jack Scalia), the Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security.
McAdams and Murphy have a strong rapport, and it’s interesting watching their story unfold in an extremely small environment. Instead of having elaborate sets and chases, a majority of the film’s drama happens in a two-seater row of a plane.
The storyline is smart, and shows a way post-9/11 terrorism can happen in the sky. It’ll keep you on the edge of your seat.
Final say: You won’t fall asleep. ★★★★★
