Former child actress Jennette McCurdy is incredibly honest and downright hilarious in her harrowing memoir I’m Glad My Mom Died.
From a young age, McCurdy was encouraged to follow her mom’s dream of becoming an actress. When that dream becomes a reality, her mom digs deep into emotional and physical abuse. After her mom dies of cancer in 2013, McCurdy realizes she was abused while she continues to fall into eating disorders.
Best known for her role as Sam Puckett on Nickelodeon’s iCarly and Sam & Cat, it’s hard to comprehend the amount of depression and disorder that she was experiencing off-screen while being a funny, fan-favorite onscreen.
McCurdy doesn’t shy away from details, and you’ll feel her pain writing it as you read it. It’s something that you won’t be able to put down.
Final say: McCurdy deserves praise. ★★★★★
