The Olivia Rodrigo-Joshua Bassett-Sabrina Carpenter drama that went down in late 2020 and early 2021 is the biggest teen romance feud since the Hilary Duff-Aaron Carter-Lindsay Lohan drama of the early 2000s. While Rodrigo came out with her story through Sour, this EP is Bassett’s side of the story.
The lead single, “Lie Lie Lie,” is a straightforward accusation of events not being told truthfully. It’s a catchy tune, even if he’d already been written off in favor of Rodrigo’s “Drivers License.” But it’s “Telling Myself” where Bassett shines lyrically with him taking part of the blame and having a conversation about their thoughts.
Bassett’s big problem is that he relies too much on his falsetto when his voice sounds smoother and more mature when he remains in his chest voice.
Final say: It’s good, but not winning the fight. ★★★☆☆
